OnePlus customers report credit card fraud after buying device from the company website

Several OnePlus customers have reported unusual credit card transactions after buying products from the company's shopping website -- OnePlus Store (oneplus.net). While some of them took it to the company's forum to complain about it, others vented their anger on Reddit. One of the affected customers said on the company's forum, "I purchased two phones with two different credit cards, first on 11-26-17 and second on 11-28-17.

Yesterday I was notified on one of the credit cards of suspected fraudulent activity, I logged onto credit card site and verified that there were several transactions that I did not make. I went through the process and switched accounts... no big deal. Today same thing with the other credit card. I do not use either of those credit cards frequently. The only place that both of those credit cards had been used in the last 6 months was on the Oneplus website.

I am not too worried about it, I have fraud protection on all of my cards." Most of the affected OnePlus customers also voted on the poll created by the OnePlus forum moderator. Out of all the those who voted, 32.4% (143 members and counting) witnessed fraudulent transactions and purchased a device from the company website in the past two months. On its part, OnePlus has responded to users claims and said that it is investigating the issue.

In a post the company has said that those who have used credit cards on the oneplus.net website may have been affected. An investigation is going on. The company further added in the post that it does not store buyer's credit card information as it is directly sent to the firm's PCI-DSS-compliant payment processing partner and is processed there.

As for the "save this card for future transactions" feature, the company said that turning on this feature lets payment processing partner encrypt the credit card info and save it. Few digits are sent to OnePlus for identification purposes plus a "token" - a string of symbols that represents the card.
